DOCSIS
MCNS, DOCSIS 1.0, 1.0+, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, EuroDOCSIS
Under the term DOCSIS different designations as well as versions are to be found, which are to be differentiated as follows:
MCNS
-MCNS (Multimadia Cable network system) was extended and umgenannt now as follow-up specification in DOCSIS.
DOCSIS 1.0
-DOCSIS 1,0 in the spring 1997 publish, already over 40 cable modem (status March 2000) are certified DOCSIS 1,0. By those soon publish DOCSIS 1,1 specification no DOCSIS of 1,0 systems are more developed.
DOCSIS 1.0+
-DOCSIS 1,0+ Cablemodem possess a DOCSIS 1,1 suited hardware and can be completed by means of software updating on DOCSIS 1,1.
DOCSIS 1.1
- DOCSIS 1,1 is an extended specification which in April 1999 was published. The new version contains in particular extensions for the transfer of language (Voice of over IP), extended safety features and other time-critical services. DOCSIS 1,1 is downward compatible to DOCSIS 1,0 systems. First DOCSIS 1,1 certified Cablemodem is available since end of 2001. Most today available DOCSIS 1,0 Cablemodem can be rigged with the help of a firmware Upgrades on DOCSIS 1,1.
DOCSIS 1.2
-DOCSIS 1,2 (Terayon) was dropped for compatibility reasons, because this possibly to the introduction new modulation procedures would have led.
DOCSIS 2.0
-While the extensions of DOCSIS contained 1,0 to 1.1 only software adjustments, DOCSIS 2,0 two new modulation procedures is contained. The modulation procedures S-CDMA (synchronous code division multiple ACCESS) and A-TDMA (advanced frequencies agile time division multiple ACCESS) are to enable the three-way the existing DOCSIS 1.x Banbreite. Past DOCSIS of 1,1 systems erziehlten in 6 mc/s a broad HF channel Upstream bandwidths of 10 Mbps, with DOCSIS 2,0 should up to 30 Mbps be possible. According to CableLabs DOCSIS 2,0 should be finished already to end this yearly, however DOCSIS of 2,0 systems are not expected the year ago 2003.
EuroDOCSIS
-EuroDOCSIS, a resolution around in particular the European specifications for cable systems better to fulfill to be able was developed in the middle of 1999 of CableLabs than an extension of the DOCSIS standard. EuroDOCSIS indicates the following modifications in relation to the US version: - Downstream Kanalbandbreite from now 8 mc/s instead of 6 mc/s - Upstream frequency range extended on 65 mc/s instead of of 42 mc/s Zurzeit are still no EuroDOCSIS suited devices available. The hardware of many DOCSIS 1,1 modems enables with appropriate software updating the operation also as EuroDOCSIS to modem.
